Privacy policy

This policy explains how JetLag SA, a division of Quasar Holdings (Pty) Ltd ("JetLag SA", "we", "us") collects, uses, stores and protects your personal information when you visit jetlagsa.co.za, buy from us or contact us. We process personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

Who is responsible for your information

JetLag SA, a division of Quasar Holdings (Pty) Ltd is the responsible party for the personal information collected through this site. Our address is 81 Hamerkop Crescent, Montana Estate, Doornpoort, Pretoria, 0186.

Our Information Officer deals with privacy questions and requests. You can reach the Information Officer at info@jetlagsa.co.za or on 082 909 9694, Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00.

What we collect

  • Order details: your name, email address, mobile number, delivery address, the products you buy and your order history.
  • Account details, if you create an account: your name, email address, saved addresses and sign-in details. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and Google account identifier from Google.
  • Messages and reviews: what you write to us through the contact form, email or phone, and any review you submit, including your name and town if you add it.
  • Payment information: payments are handled by PayFast. We receive confirmation that you paid and a payment reference, but we never see or store your full card number or banking passwords.
  • Technical information: basic technical data needed to run the site securely, such as your browser type and an anonymised form of your network address used to prevent spam and abuse.

We do not collect special personal information, such as health information, on purpose. Please do not include personal health details in reviews or messages. If you do share them, we only use them to answer your question.

Why we use it

  • To take, process, deliver and support your orders, including sending order and delivery emails.
  • To run your account, if you choose to have one.
  • To answer your questions and complaints.
  • To publish reviews you submit, after we have checked them.
  • To keep the site secure, prevent fraud and spam, and meet our legal obligations, including tax and consumer law.
  • To send you marketing, but only if you have agreed to receive it, and you can opt out at any time.

We rely on the following lawful grounds under POPIA: performing our contract with you, your consent where we ask for it, complying with the law, and our legitimate interest in running a safe, working online shop.

Who we share it with

We only share your information with service providers who help us run the shop, and only as much as they need:

  • PayFast, to process your payment.
  • Google (Firebase and Google Cloud), which hosts the website, database and sign-in service, and sends our emails.
  • Our courier, currently The Courier Guy, which receives your name, phone number and delivery address to deliver your parcel.
  • Professional advisers and authorities, such as our accountants, or where the law requires us to share information.

We do not sell your personal information. Some of our service providers may store or process information outside South Africa. When that happens, we make sure they are bound by data protection rules that give a level of protection similar to POPIA, as section 72 of POPIA requires.

How long we keep it

We keep order and payment records for as long as tax and accounting law requires, currently at least five years. We keep account information while your account is open, and messages and reviews for as long as we need them for the purpose they were given. After that we delete or anonymise it.

How we protect it

We use reputable, secure hosting, encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls so that only authorised staff can see customer information, and automatic sign out for inactive sessions. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational steps to prevent loss, misuse or unauthorised access. If a security compromise affects your information, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

Cookies and similar technology

The site uses your browser storage for essential features only: remembering your cart, keeping you signed in and remembering basic preferences. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. If you sign in with Google, Google may set its own cookies under its privacy policy. If we add analytics or marketing tools in future, we will update this policy and ask for consent where the law requires it.

Your rights

Under POPIA you have the right to:

  • ask whether we hold personal information about you and request a copy of it;
  • ask us to correct or delete information that is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete or that we may no longer keep;
  • object to us using your information, including for direct marketing;
  • withdraw consent you have given, without affecting anything done before;
  • lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.

To use any of these rights, email info@jetlagsa.co.za. We may need to confirm your identity first and will respond within a reasonable time. You can contact the Information Regulator through its website, inforegulator.org.za.

Children

Our products are not meant for children and the shop is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version is always on this page, and we will tell account holders by email about any significant change.
